Happy Pi day! Today (in my timezone) is 3.14 or pi day! And on this day I’m here to talk about how we use Pi in literally everyday sewing of the most basic and common thing: circle skirts!!! Whether it’s a skirt, a sleeve, a bell bottom jean or more, pi is used to help find the radius of your inner measurement and make your fashion dreams come true! Don’t understand pi too much yet? Fear not because there are fantastic websites (byhandlondon or mood fabrics) that take the guesswork out of circle garments for you! Did you know pi was used in circle skirts?? #piday #sewing #sewingtutorial #fantasyfashion #tutorial #upcycle
How make fairy skirts, handkerchief skirts or whatever you want to call them! These are super easy and super cute, a great way to elevate a festival outfit or Ren Faire look! #festivalseason #renfaire #sewingtutorial #sewingtiktok
What is your hottest sewing take? I’ll start: I think hot glue is okay to use when you’re making something like a costume or something with limited wear and I see no problems with using it for whatever you want to glue together/glue on/glue down
ant to use up all your fabric in one shot? Make a flounce! That’s right whether spiral or circular or square, these gorgeous pieces love to consume all your fabric so be prepared! Personally I love them and how they look, they give such a whimsical feel to any kind of outfit you make!! I’ve seen them made of denim, made of chiffon and everything in between, different materials give different drapes (the hang of the fabric), so make sure to play around and add something whimsical and different to your outfits today! And yes they make great Upcycle projects! What kind of flounce would you make? #flounces #sewingforkids #sewingtutotial #upcycle #stem
Let’s talk about corset boning! There are many types out there: from spiral steel to featherlite, and they do all have applications! I’m covering the three I use the most: spiral steel, for seams with more extreme curves, synthetic whalebone for seams that need a more rigid look, and featherlite, my go to for clothes that need to be washed more regularly but still want some kind of structure to them! Lots of clothes you love and own already have boning: from bras to swimwear, you’ll find it in the most unlikely places. Now these aren’t the ONLY types of boning out there, so have fun and explore your own!! Have you used boning before? #tutorial #fantasyfashion #sewing
