Here’s how @Riley S. Quinn uses the gem brush from our fashion collection for Procreate, Clip Studio Paint and Photoshop to add details to her character’s outfit! Here are the written steps: 1. Mark where you want to place the gems. Sketching it out first helps you plan the design and bedazzle it with confidence! 2. Trace your sketch lines with Vegalia’s gem brush. 3. Alpha lock this layer. 4. Color it in with a vivid base hue, and airbrush in some soft gradients to indicate shadow. 5. Using Vegalia’s glitter brush and a paler color (though I recommend you keep it saturated, don’t use pure white) get some pops of sparkle into the gems. 6. Adjust the curves down slightly to up contrast. 7. Set this layer to add. 8. Duplicate it, and set the LOWER layer to multiply. 9. Using transform, offset it slightly to create shadows. 10. Duplicate the add layer again, set it to hard light, and apply any extra colors you’d like. 11. This is the best spot in the process to freestyle. Experiment with layer modes, opacity, and color now! 12. When you’re satisfied, duplicate your add layer a final time, give it some Gaussian blue, and watch the magic! 13. I like to finish it off with chromatic abberation. Gives it a diamond-y feel. 14. That’s it! BONUS POINTERS: This is just one of many ways to achieve this effect! I encourage you to adjust the steps and play with the result. Make it your own! A reference is always helpful. Gather some pretty photos to circle back to if you feel lost.
