Back in the 18th century, local settlers placed a Mazu statue in their homes for protection. By 1863, the community came together to build the temple that still stands today. For over 170 years, the Baishatun Mazu has been part of local life. The unique movable-limb statue is carefully dressed each year before the annual pilgrimage. The biggest event is the Baishatun Mazu walk to Beigang — once a coming-of-age tradition for local youth, now a beloved cultural festival recognized across Taiwan as an important part of its heritage.
