Apples are naturally built for long-term storage! SO… unlike other fruit, apples have a low respiration rate, meaning they break down more slowly over time. With even the most basic storage methods- like keeping them cool, ensuring good air circulation to reduce ethylene (the natural ripening gas), and choosing varieties known for their long shelf life- apples can stay fresh for months.📆 But on a larger scale, MOST of our fruit goes to high-tech storage warehouses with Controlled Atmosphere (CA) rooms. The difference? Precision. These rooms go beyond simple refrigeration by fine-tuning oxygen, carbon dioxide, and humidity levels to slow down ripening even further. Some apples also receive a treatment with 1-MCP (1-Methylcyclopropene), this temporarily blocks ethylene receptors, helping the fruit stay firm & fresh for even longer. With CA storage, we can get oxygen levels incredibly low—sometimes as little as 1%, and carefully monitor gas levels to keep apples in peak condition until they’re ready to be enjoyed. That’s how we can deliver crisp, flavorful apples year-round! 🍏🍎 #Fruit #Farmer #FreshFruit #foodfacts #AppleStorage #FarmFresh #FoodSupply #SupplyChain #Agriculture #AppleGirl
Apples can’t speak for ALL farming, obviously. But it is a pretty large player in the export space- so how that plays out will be an indicator for the rest of the ag sector…. Example: the last time tariffs were imposed on India, US apple growers lost roughly $800 million over 5 years. Crazy! What can you do? Buy local fresh produce, and TALK to a farmer. 🙏 I am an eternal optimist, you HAVE to be in farming. I pray for the best outcome for everyone- I will trust that our president & USDA will fight for us farmers too. Just don’t forget about us! 😉 #tariffs #farmers #export #apples #agriculture #economy #Trump #usda

This is the last pickup my grandpa had before he passed away so it is VERY special to me. Since I got a newer pickup, I’m keeping this one under cover. Especially during the winter when it can be more susceptible to rust from corrosive stuff sprayed on the roads & salt. SO fun to drive her again💙 #powerstroke #farmtruck #diesel #ford #fordtrucks #coldstart
Finish this sentence: “without agriculture…” Happy National Ag Day, to the wonderful people who feed us. From the field & ranch, to the truckers, to the warehouses, to the rest of the supply chain. Thank YOU🫶 #thankafarmer #nationalagday #agriculture #wherefoodcomesfrom #farming #paulharvey
Warmer air rises, we use wind machines to stir up the air. It will bring warmer air down to the blossoms. This can raise temps about 4°😊 Some machines like this are on an automatic setting but can get stuck so we still go and check on them… #farming #orchard #spring #applegirl
