Something I learned in dental school that surprised me was that certain teas contain fluoride! Black tea, oolong, and matcha being on the higher end. 🍵 An 8 oz serving of matcha contains 0.1 to 1.2 mg of fluoride. (8 oz of fluoridated water contains 0.17mg) The concentration of fluoride varies depending on the tea’s quality and source. Higher grade matcha usually has a lower fluoride concentration. ♻️ Once you drill it, the cycle of replacing that filling starts! 🚨 PSA: NOTHING in dentistry lasts forever. There will be a day that every filling, crown, or even veneer needs to be replaced. That is why it’s a fine balance when we decide to drill. ➡️If it’s a baby cavity IN ENAMEL, it may still be reversible with good oral hygiene and proper products. 📌If it’s reversible, I’m 💯 for monitoring it closely. I’ve monitored baby cavities for over 10 years and NOT had them grow any larger. ➡️ But once the baby cavity grows just a little bigger past the point of being able to reverse on its own, I’m for doing a tiny filling. 📌If it’s irreversible, the longer you wait the bigger it gets, and the more tooth structure we need to drill out. 🙅‍♀️ 👩🏻‍⚕️Being conservative is a FINE BALANCE. It means being PROACTIVE, but not being AGGRESSIVE. There is a difference! One caveat: if you do not regularly see a dentist, I do not recommend watching. “Watching” means that a baby cavity is being properly monitored via Xray.
