It’s the biggest night in fashion, the MET GALA 2025! Tonight, I’m that fabulous African auntie draped in a stunning Boubou from @MARFIS , sitting pretty at home, ready to judge the red carpet like my invite got lost in the mail! I haven’t been this excited for the Met Gala in years. This year’s theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” is incredibly meaningful and powerful. It’s inspired by the work of Monica L. Miller and her book “Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity.” The theme explores Black dandyism and its deep influence on global fashion from the 18th century to today. This moment also ties into the Costume Institute’s Spring 2025 exhibition of the same name, which will highlight Black style through both historical and cultural lenses, featuring clothing, photographs, paintings, and more. I’m especially looking forward to seeing talented Black designers finally get their spotlight on tonight’s red carpet. So many have prayed for a moment like this. Man… what a night it will be!
