What they don’t tell you about working in the animation industry 👇👇👇 Talent isn’t always enough. Being good at art or animation doesn’t guarantee you’ll get hired. Networking, timing, and knowing how to present your work matter just as much. It’s a gig-based industry. Many roles are project-based or freelance, with little job security. Contracts end. Studios shut down. It’s unstable, and you’ll likely move around a lot. Burnout is real. Long hours, tight deadlines, and unrealistic expectations can wear you down. Many leave the industry within a few years. Passion can be exploited. “Do what you love” is often used to justify poor pay, unpaid overtime, or toxic work environments. Don’t let passion stop you from setting boundaries. There are massive gatekeepers. Breaking into big-name studios can be extremely competitive. Many roles are filled through internal recommendations or alumni networks. You might not get to “be creative.” Most professional animation work involves executing someone else’s vision, often with limited input. The job is often technical, not expressive. The industry changes constantly. Tools, pipelines, and popular styles evolve fast. If you stop learning, you risk falling behind. Many animator jobs aren’t in feature films or TV shows. The bulk of animation jobs are in advertising, education, games, marketing, and corporate content, not Hollywood. Rejection is constant. You will get ignored, ghosted, or turned down regularly. It’s not personal, it’s the norm. This list is NOT intended to scare you off, but it’s important to understand all aspects of a job before making it a career. These are just intended to help you go in informed and prepared . . . #animation #animation #animationtips #arttips #arttipsandtricks #artistsoftiktok
