Blueprint to breaking par ⬇️ 1️⃣: you need a go to tee shot, doesn’t necessarily have to be pretty but it needs to be repeatable. The shape of the hole is irrelevant unless there are trees close to the box with a sharp dog leg. If it doesn’t fit your driver shape go to 3 wood or an iron that is easier to shape. 2️⃣: the easiest way to break par is to become deadly inside 120 yards. This is where your birdie looks come from, you’re typically going to have 6-7 wedges in your hand between par 5s and short/mid length 4s. Wedges also are going to save you if you get in trouble and will give you chances to save par. 3️⃣: be smart with aim points, do not get overly aggressive. A scratch golfer averages less than 2 birdies a round, you need to make as many pars as you can. Firing at pins is where stress and bogey+ scores come from. Free plug and 0 affiliation but check out @decade_golf to help with that. 4️⃣: make your putts inside 5 feet. This is where you can’t waste shots and keep momentum going. Previous videos discussed the importance of lag putting. When you’re trying to break par, and the better you get, the more boring golf should become. Keep it in play off the tee, hit it to safe/smart spots on the green, two putt, and sneak a birdie in there every once in a while (aka the Scottie Scheffler model). . Full grip guide ⬆️ This is going to be a fairly neutral condition and you will see many different grips from high level players. I recommend, especially if you’re a newer player, you start somewhere close to this then make adjustments based on ball flight and to assist with tweaking wrist positions if instructed to by a coach (online and in person lesson links in profile). Grip pressure can be a bit subjective but if a 1/10 is throwing the club because the grip is so light, and a 10/10 is as hard as you can I’d recommend somewhere in the 4-5/10 range. .
